Figure skating isn’t just for kids! In fact it’s a great sport to learn at any age. Traverse City Figure Skating Club offers adult figure skating lessons through the Basic Skills/Learn to Skate program. Once you have the basics down (forward and backward skating, basic turns), consider joining the Adult Synchronized Skating Team.
Part of the Northern Lights Synchronized program at TCFSC, the adult team currently competes in the Open Adult division. This division is open to adults age 18 and over. Skaters should be comfortable skating forward and backward crossovers. Experience on a synchronized team is not required. The team is coached by Domonique Vizzini and practices once a week. If you enjoy laughing, dining out, spending time with friends, traveling, and oh yeah, Skating, contact team captain, Brandy Wheeler at brandywheeler@chartermi.net for more information.
In non-competitive years the adult group focuses on skill building and growing the team. On-ice practice includes instruction in Moves-in-the-field, Freestyle elements such as spins and jumps, and some basic dance patterns.
Skaters not ready for competition, but interested in the skating with other adults are encouraged to contact the Adult Synchronized Team for more information. An individual adult skater’s level can be evaluated by a skating professional who can better explain the options available to them through Traverse City Figure Skating Club.
Whether you’re a beginner who hasn’t donned skates since you were a child, you’re just a little rusty, or perhaps you’re ready to work on new skills, we hope you’ll consider joining us on the ice.
